My. Ashraf et al., EFFECT OF WATER-STRESS ON TOTAL PHENOLS, PEROXIDASE-ACTIVITY AND CHLOROPHYLL CONTENT IN WHEAT (TRITICUM-AESTIVUM L), Acta Physiologiae Plantarum, 16(3), 1994, pp. 185-191
A series of experiments were carried out on four wheat genotypes: tole
rant (Chakwal-86 and DS-4) and susceptible (DS-17 and Pavon) to drough
t induced by PEG-6000 solutions (0 and -0.6 MPa). It was found that wa
ter stress reduced root, and shoot length, dry weight and chlorophyll
(a, b and total) contents; the reduction was more pronounced in drough
t susceptible genotypes. On the other hand, total phenols, peroxidase
activity and chlorophyll a/b ratio increased under drought conditions.
The effect was more pronounced in susceptible genotypes (DS-17 and Pa
von).
