B. Kreber et al., METHYL-BROMIDE FUMIGATION TO CONTROL NONMICROBIAL DISCOLORATIONS IN WESTERN HEMLOCK AND RED ALDER, Forest products journal, 44(10), 1994, pp. 63-67
Methyl bromide fumigation was investigated as a means to control disco
lorations in red alder and western hemlock. Freshly sawn red alder and
western hemlock logs were fumigated in a commercial pest control faci
lity. Discolorations were monitored in the logs and in lumber produced
from both fumigated and control logs over 2 weeks. Methyl bromide fum
igation prevented discolorations in red alder under drying conditions
but discoloration of western hemlock was not prevented in freshly fell
ed log sections or in lumber with existing endstain.
