Abstract
Conditions for Hopf bifurcations and associated current oscillations a re presented for a standard model of a resonant tunneling diode circui t. We derive a simple analytic formula for the Hopf bifurcation type ( subcritical or supercritical) and discuss how this affects circuit ope ration, e.g., whether or not hysteresis and bistability are observed i n current-voltage curves.
