The quark-cluster model with coupling constants constraint by chiral s
ymmetry is extended to include strange quarks. In this model, besides
the confinement and one-gluon exchange potentials, the pseudoscalar me
sons and sigma (sigma) meson exchanges are included as the nonperturba
tive effect. Using this interaction we studied the binding energy of t
he deuteron, the NN scattering phase shifts and the hyperon-nucleon cr
oss sections in the framework of the resonating group method (RGM). Th
e results are reasonably consistent with experiments.
