H. Meyer et al., MOLECULAR METHODS FOR THE DIFFERENTIATION OF THE EQUINE HERPES-VIRUS VACCINE STRAIN RAC-H, Tierarztliche Umschau, 49(10), 1994, pp. 624-628
A method for the rapid differentiation of the EHV1 live vaccine strain
Rac H and EHV1 isolates from abortions is described. Total DNA was is
olated from virus-infected cell cultures and digested with restriction
endonuclease BamHI. A Southern blot was prepared and hybridised with
an EHV1-specific probe. Deletions of 0.9 kbp in each of the two fragme
nts detected provided the observation of a unique pattern for strain R
ac H. Comparison of the different sizes of the hybridised DNA-fragment
s revealed that in 75 isolates the live vaccine strain Rac H was not i
nvolved.
