Abstract
This study was undertaken to determine the concentration of fluoride i ons in drinking water in Austria. The results show that the fluoride i on concentration is sufficient (0.7-1.0 ppm F-) to prevent carries onl y in very few parts of Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tirol, Carinthia, and Styria. Hence, additional fluoridation is necessary to achieve successful prophylaxis of caries.
