A general kinetic model is proposed for the development of concentrati
on-deformation-thermal instabilities in a system of point defects (vac
ancies, interstitials, impurities) in crystals subjected to concentrat
ed energy fluxes. This model was used in an analysis of the formation
of periodic ring vacancy structures and the appearance of flexural def
ormation in a film on a substrate. The period of the resultant structu
re, as well as the dependences of this period on the conditions during
irradiation and on the film parameters, are found. The theoretical re
sults are show to agree satisfactorily with experiments on laser depos
ition of molybdenum films on an insulator substrate.
