Abstract
Issues regarding the safety of erythropoietin (EPO) administration to anemic patients with chronic renal failure prior to the need for dialy sis are discussed. The manner in which patients should be evaluated pr ior to EPO treatment is discussed. Guidelines for the initiation, titr ation, and maintenance dosing of EPO are provided, along with recommen dations for monitoring and follow-up evaluation.
