Rt. Coverdale et al., INTERPRETATION OF THE IMPEDANCE SPECTROSCOPY OF CEMENT PASTE VIA COMPUTER MODELING .2. DIELECTRIC RESPONSE, Journal of Materials Science, 29(19), 1994, pp. 4984-4992
Dielectric properties of cement pastes are measured using impedance sp
ectroscopy, and the effective dielectric constants of the low frequenc
y bulk arcs are reported. The unusually high values thereby obtained,
and their dependence on reaction time and water:cement ratio, are expl
ained by the presence of microstructural features that serve to amplif
y the dielectric constants of the individual material phases. The diel
ectric properties of three-dimensional cement paste models and of simp
le two-dimensional models of the hypothesized microstructural features
are analysed. The model results provide insight into the proposed die
lectric amplification mechanism in real cement paste.
