The nitrosation of gaseous diethylamine through NO2 was investigated.
It was shown that this reaction has a radical character. The rate of r
eaction in the dark as well as in the sunlight is high (k = 6,0 +/- 0,
6 . 10(8) l2/mol2 . s at room temperature). It is worth mentioning tha
t N2O4 and not NO2 is the direct nitrosating agent. Before the nitrosa
tion takes place an equilibrium of dimerization between NO2 and N2O4 e
xists. As a consequence of this, a negative energy of activation for t
he whole reaction results.
