Abstract
This study deals with the range of the Cabrera water shrew (Neomys ano malus) in the northeast Iberian peninsula and the ecological factors t hat may determine its distribution. Information is provided on 26 new sites, including the first records of the species on the southern slop e of the Pyrenees. In these mountains, where the water shrew (Neomys f odiens) lives, the Cabrera water shrew (N. anomalus) was found at high altitudes and also below the range occupied by the former species. In the remainder of the study area its distribution seems to be conditio ned by the hydrographic network characteristics, showing mediterranean preferences.
