S. Koter, TRANSPORT-PROPERTIES OF PERFLUORINATED CATION-EXCHANGE MEMBRANES IN AQUEOUS AND METHANOL SOLUTIONS OF NACL, Polish Journal of Chemistry, 68(10), 1994, pp. 2019-2029
The properties of perfluorinated membranes (Nafion(R)) with sulfonic a
nd carboxylic groups in aqueous and methanol solutions of NaCl at room
temperature is compared. The transport properties examined are: the a
pparent transport number of Na+, conductivity, permeability of electro
lyte and the solvent. It is found that the decrease of separating abil
ity of membranes in methanol solutions is caused mainly by the increas
e of solvent and salt permeability. The transport numbers of Na+ count
erions in both solvents are comparable. The highest increase of permea
tion rates of salt and solvent is observed for the carboxylate membran
e.
