A mathematical model is constructed, which guantitatively describes th
e rate of erythrocyte passage through pores of nuclear membrane filter
s during filtration of a diluted erythrocyte suspension upon action of
a constant hydrostatic pressure. The following main factors have been
taken into account: geometrical constraints linking the surface area
of the erythrocyte membrane, the erythrocyte volume and the geometrica
l parameters of the filter pores; mechanical characteristics of the er
ythrocyte membrane; viscosity of the intracellular content. Analysis o
f the model allows us to conclude that it is possible to extract infor
mation about all above erythrocyte characteristics from the experiment
al curves describing dependency of the filtration rate of the erythroc
yte suspension from the osmoticity of the outer medium.
