Abstract
Traditionally, IOL implantation in eyes with uveitis has not been reco mmended. In the present study 31 eyes with uveitis which underwent ext racapsular cataract extraction or phacoemulsification with IOL implant ation, are compared to a reference group consisting of 930 eyes. There was increased postoperative innflammation in 29% in the uveitis group , compared to 5.9% in the reference group. The rate of per- and postop erative complications was slightly elevated in the group with uveitis. Corrected visual acuity of 5/8.5 or better was achieved in 58.1%. The major obstacle to good visual acuity postoperatively, was macular pat hology.
