The standard Delvotest P was initially assessed as a screening method
for detecting samples with >0.006 IU/ml penicillin which constitutes a
failure under current EC legislation. In order to allow the test to b
e used for confirmatory purposes it was subsequently modified by dilut
ing the sample with antibiotic-free raw milk and the probability of ob
taining an accurate (+/- 0.001 IU/ml) result was found to be 59, 75, 8
4, 89, 92, 95, 96 and 87% when 1 to 8 determinations, respectively, we
re carried out on a single sample over the concentration range 0 to 0.
