P. Vavassori et al., UV-SPECTROSCOPY STUDY OF THE CE7RH3 EMPTY AND FILLED VALENCE STATES, Physical review. B, Condensed matter, 50(13), 1994, pp. 9561-9564
We present an UV-photoemission and inverse-photoemission investigation
on the valence states of Ce7Rh3. The data have been compared with tho
se of the isostructural Lu7Rh3 where the 4f signal is absent in the va
lence region. The d-sensitive spectra show a strong similarity between
the d-like states for the two compounds. This circumstances has been
interpreted in terms of balancing between variations of nearest-neighb
or distances and wave-function radial extensions, and exploited to ext
ract the whole 4f spectral function from the f-sensitive Ce7Rh3 spectr
a both below and above the Fermi energy. These results, together with
results from Ce 3d core-level spectroscopy, indicate that Ce7Rh3 has a
small hybridization strength (similar to that of gamma-Ce) and a 4f o
ccupation (n(f)) close to 1.
