The structure of metformine tetrachlorocuprate(II), (C4H13N5)[CuCl4],
consists of an NN-dimethylbiguanidium cation and a squashed tetrahedra
l CuCl42- anion, which has Cl-Cu-Cl bond angles equal to 136 and 96-de
grees. The two guanide groups are not coplanar; the angle between the
two guanide planes is 132.7 (5). There are several N-H ... Cl hydrogen
bonds between the organic cation and the tetrachlorocuprate anion.
