Abstract
A 21-month-old admitted for right-sided hemiplegia was found to have c ongenital heterozygous antithrombin III deficiency, The mother was als o affected and had a history of deep vein thrombosis and fetal death, Clinical, laboratory test, and radiologic findings demonstrated that t he hemiplegia was due to an ischemic stroke, Treatment consisted of no nfractionated heparin and daily infusions of antithrombin III concentr ates for 12 days, followed by long-term oral anticoagulant therapy, Th e neurologic deficit resolved completely.
