SPONTANEOUS HEMOTHORAX IN PEDIATRIC-PATIE NTS - A RARE BILATERAL FORMIN AN INFANT

A boy conceived by in vitro fertilization and born by cesarean section at 40 weeks gestational age gradually developed respiratory distress syndrome starting four hours after birth. He required ventilator suppo rt for 18 days and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation from D2 to D5. At the age of 13 months, he developed bilateral hemothorax with respir atory distress. In total, 5500 ml of blood were evacuated, 3250 ml fro m the left side and 2250 ml from the right side. Investigations perfor med in Cameroon and in Germany failed to identify the source of bleedi ng. The relevant medical literature is reviewed.
