A. Kamoun et al., SURGICAL REMOVAL OF URINARY STONES DUE TO PRIMARY OXALURIA TYPE-I IS SAFE WHEN COMBINED WITH HYPERHYDRATION, Annales de pediatrie, 44(2), 1997, pp. 115-116
Surgical removal of urinary stones in patients with primary oxaluria T
ype I has been reported to cause renal function deterioration. A case
treated by two open surgical procedures after failure of extracorporea
l shock wave lithotripsy is reported. Magnesium, bicarbonates, and lar
ge amounts of fluids were given during the procedures. There was no ch
ange in renal function. Hyperhydration with magnesium and bicarbonate
supplementation may protect patients with primary oxaluria Type I from
renal function deterioration due to surgical removal of urinary stone
