Abstract
Based on a suggested biogenetic sequence, a sarpagine-type indole alka loid, gardnerine (2), was stereoselectively converted to a new skeleta l type Gelsemium alkaloid, 11-methoxy-19(R)-hydroxygelselegine (1), vi a biogenetically hypothetical aziridine intermediate (17).
