S. Taniguchi et al., TREATMENT OF LINEAR LOCALIZED SCLERODERMA WITH THE ANTIALLERGIC DRUG,TRANILAST, Clinical and experimental dermatology, 19(5), 1994, pp. 391-393
A 14-year-old boy with linear localized scleroderma had a dramatic imp
rovement in contractures after treatment with N-(3',4'-dimethoxycinnam
oyl) anthranilic acid (tranilast, Rizaben(R)). The observation that th
is antiallergic drug was effective in localized scleroderma lends furt
her support to the concept that mast cells play a role in increased co
llagen synthesis in this disease.
