Abstract
The rates of ethylene polymerization catalyzed by Cp(2)ZrCl(2)-polymet hylalumoxane and (Cp(2)ZrCl)(2)O-polymethylalumoxane are equal. Accord ing to NMR and ESR spectral data, the same precatalyst, presumably Cp( 2)ZrMe(2), is formed in both systems by the action of AlMe(3). This ac counts for the equal catalytic activity of the systems based on Cp(2)Z rCl(2) and (Cp(2)ZrCl)(2)O. A scheme of reactions resulting in cleavag e of the Zr-O-Zr bridge is proposed and confirmed by spectroscopic dat a.
