The simple synthesis in nearly quantitative yield of dimesityl-neopent
ylsilene 3, the first stable silene in the neopentyl series, was perfo
rmed using t-butyllithium and dimesitylvinylfluorosilane. 3 was isolat
ed by crystallization from pentane and characterized by C-13 (doubly b
onded carbon at + 110.4 ppm) and Si-29 (+ 77.6 ppm) NMR spectroscopy a
nd analysis.
