The first amplitude analysis of data on ppBAR --> pi-pi+ from the CERN
PS172 experiment is performed to find the resonant content of the NNB
AR --> pipi channel in the range 0.36 less-than-or-equal-to P(lab) les
s-than-or-equal-to 1.55 GeV/c. Using the Barrelet method, only two sol
utions having acceptable threshold behavior and continuity in energy,
which also describe the experimental results on ppBAR --> pi0pi0, are
found. Both solutions exhibit a rich spectrum Of resonances with spins
from 0 to 4, including states with couplings to NNBAR much larger tha
n would be expected for simple qqBAR compositions.
