Abstract
Stoichiometric MgAl2O4 spinel specimens irradiated in FFTF-MOTA at tem peratures between 385 and 750 degrees C to fluences ranging from 2.2 t o 24.9 x 10(22) n/cm(2) (E > 0.1 MeV) darken significantly, but do not develop any significant loss in weight or change in dimensions. Simil ar behavior was observed in both single crystal and fully dense polycr ystalline specimens. Measurements of elastic constants by an ultrasoni c technique show that no measurable changes occur as a result of the i rradiation. These and other results confirm the stability of this mate rial for fusion applications.
