Abstract
Thermal desorption behavior of boronized graphite irradiated by an ene
rgetic hydrogen ion beam has been investigated. The desorption of meth
ane (CH4) was observed to decrease due to boron addition. By comparing
the ratios of the amount of H-2 desorption to CH4, a relative enhance
ment of H-2 release was also observed. A model for hydrocarbon release
from hydrogen-implanted graphite was applied to these experimental re
sults. Results showed that the activation energy of detrapping decreas
ed while that of precursor formation increased with increasing boron c
ontent.
