ON THE WATER-QUALITY AT BAY OF ARRAIAL-DO -CABO (RIO-DE-JANEIRO) BRAZIL

The results of water quality monitored in Arraial do Cabo (RJ) during 1991 are presented. The mean values were: temperature (23, 8+/-0, 2-de grees-C), salinity (35, 5+/-0, 2 S), dissolved oxygen (5, 4+/-0, 1 ml. 1-1), pH (8, 20+/-0, 05), ammonium (2, 6+/-0, 7 muM), nitrite (0, 20+/ -0, 05 muM), ortophosphate (0, 3+/-0, 1 muM), total (2, 4+/-0, 3 log.1 00 ml-1) and fecal coliforms (0, 6+/-0, 3 log.100 ml-1). No significan t differences in water quality were detected between the sampling poin ts. However, Anjos beach has been submitted to increasing sewage input , then becomes a priority for monitoring.
