Abstract
An investigation of patterns in the spatial and size distribution of t rees in single species stands is described. Three widely used indicato rs of competition are produced from these field measurements, and used to evaluate if competition between the trees has occurred. The fieldw ork can be carried out at any time of year, and is suitable for both c lass and small group projects.
