Fluctuations in pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles from
central collisions of O-16 + Al and O-16+Cu at 14.6A GeV/c are analyz
ed using scaled factorial moments. A power-law growth of moments with
decreasing bin size is observed down to delta eta approximately 0.1. A
bout half the measured signal remains after making corrections based o
n Monte Carlo calculations with Fritiof and GEANT which include gamma-
conversions, Dalitz decays and detector effects.
