Abstract
We obtain conditions that must be satisfied by the Higgs fields to mai ntain the electromagnetic gauge invariance in the SU(3)L X U(1)X model s of electroweak unification. We point out that in some SU(3)L X U(1)X models, the masslessness of the photon prevents the neutrinos from ac quiring Majorona masses.
