Ck. Soh et Ak. Soh, IPDOS IN RETROSPECT - LESSONS FOR THE NEXT-GENERATION OF STRUCTURAL-ENGINEERING SYSTEMS, Computers & structures, 53(1), 1994, pp. 219-225
This paper first looks at the problems related to the current use of c
omputer systems in structural engineering problem solving. It then exa
mines the lessons learned from the design and implementation of an 'in
telligent' structural design system, IPDOS [C. K. Soh and A. K. Soh, C
omput. Struct. 46, 759-769 (1993)], for the preliminary design of fixe
d offshore structures. Finally, from the current limitations of IPDOS,
the paper projects the requirements and development of next generatio
n structural engineering systems to overcome the inherent weaknesses o
f current systems.
