A spectrophotometric method for measuring the chemical yield in radioc
hemical neutron activation analysis of selenium in feedstuffs and biol
ogical materials is described. The method is based on measuring the ab
sorbance at 350 nm, which is due to the 5-nitro-2,1,3-benzoselenadiazo
le complex formed between selenium and 4-nitro-1,2-diaminobenzene. The
technique was checked against radiotracer techniques using Se-75 or S
e-81m, and was illustrated by results for different botanical samples
and certified reference materials.
