Abstract
The natural vibration of a cantilever beam that is partially covered b y a double sandwich-type viscoelastic material is analyzed. In this pa per, the differential equations of motion are derived employing Hamilt on's principle. The frequency and the loss factor of the system are ev aluated. The effects of different physical and geometrical parameters on the complex natural frequency and system loss factor are also discu ssed. A comparison of a double sandwich vs. single sandwich system is provided and, for our set of data, indicates that the double sandwich system provides better damping in most cases.
