Ph. Chandrasekar et al., CUTANEOUS INFECTIONS DUE TO ACANTHAMOEBA IN PATIENTS WITH ACQUIRED-IMMUNODEFICIENCY-SYNDROME, Archives of internal medicine, 157(5), 1997, pp. 569-572
We report 2 cases of cutaneous Acanthamoeba infection in patients with
acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. The disease, which manifests as s
ubcutaneous nodules, mimics other more commonly encountered clinical e
ntities. A high index of suspicion, familiarity with the clinical and
histologic appearance of skin lesions, and communication between clini
cians and pathologists are crucial for early diagnosis and treatment o
f this potentially fatal infection.
