Koelreuteria saponin mixture isolated from the seeds of Koelreuteria p
aniculata Laxm. was found to possess molluscicidal activity against th
e schistosomiasis transmitting snail Biomphalaria glabrata (Say). The
lowest concentration showing 100% mortality to snails was 27 mg/l. The
haemolytic activity and the molluscicidal potency of the Koelreuteria
saponin mixture were compared with those of primulic acid with the re
sult that high haemolytic activity will not automatically imply a stro
ng molluscicidal potency.
