Apystomyiidae, a new family of the Asiloidea, contains Apystomyia elin
guis Melander, 1950 (from California and Mexico) only, which is differ
ent considerably in many characteristics from the members of Bombyliid
ae, Hilarimorphidae and Scenopinidae (including the Proratinae). Unfor
tunately the immature stages of Apystomyiidae are still unknown. With
