A catalytic quantity of several elementoorganic compounds of the 3 -4
groups promoted the copolymerization of allyl chloride and allyl alcoh
ol with methylacrylates in high yields and in a wide range of composit
ion. In the case of MMA and allyl chloride, the introduction of boron,
aluminum and bismuth alkyl derivatives had a considerable influence o
n the dependence of the monomer mixture, and also on the kinetics of c
opolymerization, the molecular weight, and several physical chemical p
roperties of the copolymers. The results obtained were explained using
the coordination radical mechanism conception of the copolymerization
of monomers in the presence of organometallic compounds acting as wea
k Lewis acids.
