Abstract
Devitrification of the (Na, Mg, Ca) aluminosilicate glass phase in a h igh-alumina (>99%) ceramic substrate has been studied by TEM. MgAl2O4 (spinel) and a Ca-rich plagioclase (a solid solution between CaAl2Si2O 8 (anorthite) and NaAlSi3O8 (albite)) are the dominant crystalline pha ses. Significant spatial variability exists both in the extent of crys tallization and in the glass composition.
