Abstract
The theory of spatial pattern formation in a nonlinear cavity is exten ded to account for the vector nature of the fields. For a self-defocus ing medium rolls (stripes) can form spontaneously under suitable condi tions. The roll patterns exhibit many defects, especially for finite d iameter pump beams.
