Highly efficient multiwire dielectric detectors of weakly and strongly
ionizing charged particles described. These are very thin (1-5 mg/cm2
) detectors utilizing the drift and multiplication of secondary electr
ons in porous dielectric layers placed in a strong external electric f
ield (E = 10(4) - 10(5) V/cm). By construction these detectors resembl
e multiwire chambers, in which porous layers of CsI, KBr and creolite
(Na3AlF6) are used as working media. Important manufacturing singulari
ties of such detectors are considered.
