Sa. Vogelgesang et Gl. Klipple, THE MANY GUISES OF AMYLOIDOSIS - CLINICAL PRESENTATIONS AND DISEASE ASSOCIATIONS, Postgraduate medicine, 96(5), 1994, pp. 119
Amyloidosis occurs in association with many diseases and can also be i
diopathic. It is usually a systemic disease with variable presentation
s. The diagnosis should be suspected in patients with unexplained prot
einuria, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, peripheral neuropat
hy, carpal tunnel syndrome, macroglossia, or hepatosplenomegaly. Amylo
idosis generally has a poor prognosis and responds poorly to therapy.
Much needs to be learned about its pathogenesis and treatment possibil
ities.
