The inhibitory activity of an oligonucleotide complementary to the mRN
A 5' terminus and its derivatives containing aromatical 2-chloroethyla
mine, cholesterol porphyrin, and phenazinium residues at the 5' termin
us was evaluated in a cell-free translation system from rabbit reticul
ocytes. It was shown that introduction of alkylating, cholesterol, or
phenazinium group into the antisense oligonucleotide increases its inh
ibitory activity.
