Abstract
Volatile compounds of the subspecies tridentata and vaseyana of Artemi sia tridentata along with their F2 hybrids were characterized and iden tified. These compounds segregated in the F2s. Methacrolein and thujon e characterize ssp. tridentata; camphene, camphor, and 1,8-cineole cha racterize ssp. vaseyana. Results of this study taken together with pre vious work suggest that low values for the bitter volatile methacrolei n might be combined with high biomass and nutritive quality characteri stics from hybrid progeny.
