Abstract
DC SQUID measurements of the temperature dependence of the magnetic su sceptibility of europium oxalate decahydrate (Eu2(C2O4)3.10H2O) sugges ted that there may be magnetic ordering of this compound between 20 an d 30 K. Subsequent Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements at 4 K clearly preclude any ordering even at this low temperature and indicate that t he rise in the susceptibility is due to impurities. The conclusion is that, even at 4 K, Eu3+ is present in an unordered state.
