Wm. Pruimboom et al., CHANGES IN EICOSANOID AND TUMOR-NECROSIS-FACTOR-ALPHA PRODUCTION BY RAT PERITONEAL-MACROPHAGES DURING CARRAGEENAN-INDUCED PERITONITIS, Mediators of inflammation, 3(5), 1994, pp. 335-340
CHANGES and correlations in cytokine and eicosanoid production by bloo
d monocytes, non-purified and purified peritoneal cells during a carra
geenin-induced peritonitis were investigated for a period of ten days.
The cells were isolated and stimulated ia vitro. Cytokine and eicosan
oid production of the non-purified fraction increased steadily during
peritonitis. During the whole episode of peritonitis the production ca
pacity of granulocytes was very low and hardly any effect on the produ
ction capacity of macrophages (M phi) was observed, Cytokine and eicos
anoid production of the non-purified fraction was mainly due to the pr
esence of M phi. The production capacity of the peripheral blood monoc
ytes was not similar to that of the peritoneal M phi.
