Given current interest in strategy instruction, teacher education prog
rams need to provide teachers with solid preparation for working with
their students' learning strategies. This article discusses an approac
h to teacher education in which training for strategy instruction is i
ntegrated with other teaching methods instruction. Current trends in s
trategy instruction and teacher education are identified and the integ
rated approach is described. Affective questions (such as teacher resi
stance and receptivity) and crosscultural issues in teacher preparatio
n for strategy instruction are discussed.
