In two pig fattening units with 1.000 and 3.000 pigs, respectively, pe
rformance decreases by coli-diarrhoea and respiratory diseases occurre
d more frequently. By means of a metaphylaxis-program at the beginning
of the fattening period with Lincospectin(R) Premix (dosage 5 kg/t fe
ed for 3 weeks) a significant reduction of the frequency of changes in
lungs at slaughter in form of confiscates as well as an improvement o
f the average daily gain of 77 g and the improvement of feed utilizati
on by 0.25 could be achieved in comparison with an untreated control g
roup. In a second stock with inadequate stable- - especially hygienic-
and ventilation conditions - no obvious improvement of performance pa
rameters could be achieved. In industrial pig fattening production, th
e use of Lincospectin(R) Premix in the above mentioned dosage is advis
able. In case of insufficient hygienic conditions, the use of Lincospe
ctin(R) Premix is not enough to improve the production. Especially in
those cases the improvement of those conditions is of great importance
.
