Abstract
The operation and static and dynamic characteristics of a contact opti cal detector for measuring the vertical displacement of particles in a medium with a vertical density gradient are described. The dectector is designed for model geophysical experiments in the laboratory. Recor ds of the vertical displacements of particles of a linearly stratified liquid behind a hemisphere 34 mm in diameter moving at a constant vel ocity along the bottom of reservoir filled with this liquid are obtain ed. The measurements agree with calculations.
