The infrared spectrum of the nu8 band of natural CH2FCl has been recor
ded at a resolution of about 0.002 cm-1 in the range 1201-1270 cm-1 us
ing a tunable diode laser spectrometer. This vibration of symmetry spe
cies A'' gives rise to a c-type band. The rovibrational analysis in th
e P, Q, and R branches led to the assignment of 1932 and 542 transitio
ns belonging to the Cl-35 and Cl-37 isotopomers, respectively. From a
simultaneous fit of GSCD of this work and the nu3 band, together with
the literature microwave data, an improved set of ground state constan
ts up to the quartic terms has been obtained using Watson's A-reductio
n Hamiltonian in the I(r) representation. A least-squares fit of the i
dentified transitions provided excited state parameters of the nu8 ban
d for both isotopic varieties with a standard deviation of about 6 x 1
0(-4) cm-1. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
